Prototype known as the Virtual Australian Herbarium. Original implementation using GIF Fly. Demonstration producing Australia-wide distribution maps of Acacia species sourcing data from specimen databases in AD, PERTH, NSW and CANB secured $10M funding for specimen data capture.
AVH 1  ?  ? Development by KE Software. Presumably a KE Software release. Display engine rewritten using Mapserver on-line GIS. Release renamed as the Australia's Virtual Herbarium.

Note: despite the project with eResearch SA being persistently referred to as AVH 2, the version of the code is in fact version 3.0 and should be referred to as AVH 3.

HISPID 4 4.0 2000 HISPID4 HISPID version 4 was never formally released in print, appearing in a web-enabled database version in 2000. It was an incremental upgrade to HISPID 3. Since August 2007, HISPID 4 has been made available as an extract from the original database in wiki format
